  • Berlin-based actress Gudrun Herrbold “slept through the fall of the Berlin Wall”. She recounts: “I had lived in West Berlin for a year, and on that day, 9 November 1989, I had gone to bed early. The next day I woke up to what sounded like science fiction on the radio. Now, after nearly 28 years, I would like to remind myself and speak about my year behind the Berlin Wall.”

    Human Mic

The human microphone is a method to “amplify” demonstrations, as popularised by Occupy Wall Street. One person speaks, and those around them repeat the words. The voice is carried in waves into the crowd. During the Festival, and without becoming undemocratic, we will reverse the course of this process. An individual will recount collective experiences: stories of walls and borders from different parts of the world. Personal stories will be made public.
