The fifth edition of Park(ing) Day Poznań is here. It is a street celebration during which we change carparks into cafes, reading spaces, bakeries, cinemas, theatres and concert venues.

On 16 September on ul. Za Bramką, between Wszystkich Świętych Street and Kolegiacki Square, near the recently built underground carpark we will set up an 80-metre Lane of Culture, which we will animate in collaboration with Teatr Ósmego Dnia, Muzeum Narodowe, Teatr Polski, Kino Muza, Gazeta Wyborcza, Rowerowy Poznań, Dobra i Wino restaurant, Bike Café as well as Wydawnictwo Miejskie from 11:00 to 17:00. The program includes: a street breakfast, family workshops (bread baking, face painting, urban games), cinema poster-picking, book market, sightseeing visits to the Za Bramką building with the Ultra Architects architect studio, a performative reading of Hunger by Martin Caparrós and a guitar concert of The Roadhouse.

For the finale we go underground to level -3 of the Za Bramką carpark to watch Who Taught You to Drive? a documentary directed by Andrea Thiele. It is a humorous and touching story of three people who are trying to get a driving licence in a foreign country. It is a story of loneliness, dreams and striving to freedom.

All over the city several dozens of cafes, bars and cake shops will join in the celebration. The usually inaccessible parking lots will be transformed into alfresco venues.

Instead of rising a revolution we propose a striking balance between the interests of all of the users of the street. We realise that cars are still an important means of transport for many Poznanians, but all of us are also pedestrians and it is the pedestrian-friendly street that play the city-forming role.

Since 2005 for one day the inhabitants of cities all over the world transform parking lots into spaces of neighbourhood activity. Malta Festival Poznań is organising the Poznań edition for the fifth time as a part of the International Week of Sustainable Transport.

Park(ing) Day Poznań is funded from the resources of the City of Poznań. It supports the idea of the Kultura Niepodległa movement.
