Fire at Sea. A film about Lampedusa where some 150,000 refugees arrive per year. The director is interested in both the arrivals and the native islanders. He contrasts their problems and priorities, and shows how different are their definitions of a place on earth, home or homeland. Without any judgment, Rosi looks at life on the island and shows what the media overlook. The film won a Golden Bear and was nominated for an Academy Award.
