A performance lecture. A border is a barrier. It can only be fully described from a narrator's perspective. People living close to a border often feel trapped. The border defines them. It speaks of complicated neighbour relationships, of finding one's place and identity, of feeling inferior or superior. As a Cycling Community Centre facilitator, I have cycled more than 4200 kilometres of Polish borders, asking local residents to define the border and the role it plays in their lives.
Human Mic
The human microphone is a method to “amplify” demonstrations, as popularised by Occupy Wall Street. One person speaks, and those around them repeat the words. The voice is carried in waves into the crowd. During the Festival, and without becoming undemocratic, we will reverse the course of this process. An individual will recount collective experiences: stories of walls and borders from different parts of the world. Personal stories will be made public.
